The Osakis volleyball team made a short trip to Glenwood on Saturday and took third place in the Minnewaska Area Tournament.

The Silverstreaks won matches against Brandon-Evansville, Benson and Minnewaska and lost to Perham. Head coach Kirsten Wessel said the team played with a high-level of intensity throughout the Saturday tournament.

"We started out strong and played with very little let up throughout the day," Wessel said. "Every player did a great job of stepping on the court and keeping the level of play at a high level."

After the tournament, Wessel said the Silverstreak reserve players have often been ready to step into a match when a starter may be struggling. This helped them keep their intensity up during a long day of matches on Saturday.

"As a team they are all pulling for each other, even when a teammate temporarily replaces them in the lineup," Wessel said. "That kind of attitude makes me very proud of them."

The Silverstreaks wrapped up play in the Saturday tournament with a 2-0 win over the host team Minnewaska.

The first set was close between the two teams, finishing with the Silverstreaks on top 25-17. But they pulled away with a 25-12 victory in the second set.

The only loss of the day for the Silverstreaks came in a 2-0 loss to Perham.

Perham had no problem winning the first set of the match 25-14, but the Silverstreaks were close in the second before falling 25-21.

Wessel said the team will use the loss to mentally prepare for playing tougher opponents in the future.

"In our loss to Perham, I was happy to see us fight back strong and make a run for an attempted win," Wessel said. "If we could have started that run earlier we could have won that game."

Sorenson led the team with seven kills, and Staloch had a team-high eight set assists. Savageau led the Silverstreaks' defense with 12 digs.
