Silbernick is Osakis softball MPV
The Osakis softball players proved throughout this season that they weren't going to let anyone put limitations on what they could accomplish.
The Silverstreaks lost a lot of quality players over the last couple years but regrouped and finished as the subsection runner-up this spring. That was part of a long list of accomplishments for a team that finished 19-4 and with a share of the Prairie Conference title.
"I have never felt a sense of fulfillment from a season like I do with this group," head coach John Stigman said at the team's season-ending awards picnic. "What more could you have possibly done?"
Senior Lauren Silbernick was a big part of that and was honored with the team MVP Award at that banquet. Silbernick was a second-team all-state player, the Prairie Conference Most Outstanding Player and an all-section performer for this team.
Silbernick was 13-4 as this team's primary starter. She threw 104 2/3 innings and accumulated 108 strikeouts and an ERA of 2.47. She also hit .292 with a .477 on-base percentage to go along with 15 RBIs.
Fellow senior Dani Chisholm earned the Gold Glove Award from her teammates. She anchored the shortstop position and was an honorable-mention all-state performer. Chisholm joined Silbernick, Mackenzie Staloch and Katie Anderson on the all-conference team after hitting .400 with a team-leading 13 doubles and 23 RBIs.
Morgan Silbernick earned the Silverstick Award. The freshman hit .419 with 21 RBIs and 24 runs scored. Brooke Waldorf rounded out the team-award winners with the Silverstreak Award and the Most Improved Player Award. She hit .369 with 17 RBIs and 19 runs scored for Osakis.
The Silverstreaks had eight different players finish with batting averages higher than .300. They also had four players named all-section in Jenna Fearing, L. Silbernick, Chisholm and Rachelle Rajdl after Osakis made a run in the 5A tournament. The Silverstreaks won three straight games to battle through the loser's bracket before losing to Isle in a 7-4 game.
Osakis also earned a team academic Silver Award in the classroom with a team GPA between 3.50 and 3.75. Chisholm, L. Silbernick and Rajdl were academic all-state recipients, while Anderson, Staloch, Krista Fearing and Ana Chisholm joined them in earning Prairie Conference academic awards.
