Sesquicentennial buttons will help band boosters
The Band Boosters for Jefferson High School (JHS) will benefit from the sales of Alexandria Sesquicentennial Heritage Buttons throughout the month of June in a partnership called the "Button Brigade."
From now through the Vikingland Band Festival on June 29, proceeds from sales at downtown retail outlets and other locations including the Chamber of Commerce office and the Runestone Museum will go to the JHS Band Boosters.
In addition, more dates have been set for the Band Boosters Button Brigade to set up a sales booth at various Sesquicentennial events. These are June 24 at Time Capsule Day and June 25 at the Beetles Old Time Baseball Game.
The Heritage Button is the result of a contest held for students in grades K-12 with the winning design submitted by a Lincoln Elementary School 2nd-grader, Madeleine Evans. The button depicts the heritage of the Vikings and speaks to a bright future for the upcoming generations of Alexandrians.
The buttons sell for $3 each and can be purchased in large quantities to be used as give-aways or incentives for employees, organizations, volunteer recognition, and event prizes for other groups interested.
Button wearers are eligible to win prizes in free drawings at many of the official Sesquicentennial events throughout the main festival June 22- 29 and continuing at several selected events throughout the summer including the Douglas County Fair.
