Senior College kicks off spring season

With spring comes a new session of Alexandria Technical and Community College's (ATCC) Senior College. It begins with the kick-off on Tuesday, March 12 in the Information Technology Center, Room 743 with Fred de Sam Lazaro.

Lazaro is a correspondent with the PBS NewsHour and director of the Under-Told Stories Project, a program that combines international journalism and teaching. He is a Senior Distinguished Fellow at the Hendrickson Institute for Ethical Leadership at St. Mary's University of Minnesota in Winona.

He is a regular contributor and substitute anchor for PBS' Religion and Ethics Newsweekly and has directed films for the acclaimed documentary series, Wide Angle. He has reported from 55 countries.

In his address, Under-Told Stories: Making the Foreign Less Foreign, Lazaro will explore how the Internet has transformed media and the way people become informed. He will speak about the Under-Told Stories Project, which aims to cover places and issues often under-reported in the mainstream media.

The kick-off is free and open to the public. Senior College offers academically engaging short courses for adults 50 or older in West Central Minnesota.

The spring season includes 14 sessions, which probe history, economics, arts, sciences, research and current affairs.

The session runs March 19 through May 2. Sessions are held every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:15 to 5:15 p.m. in Room 743 at ATCC. Registration is $85.
