Senior College announces topics
Alexandria Technical and Community College (ATCC) has announced its 2014 Senior College of West Central Minnesota program. The winter session is called Living with the Constitution: Forces of Change and Conflict in our Government and Courts Today.
This course will have six sessions, which will review the historical politics within the Constitution, and how they are affecting citizens today.
The course will discuss current events, such as: legalization of marijuana, same sex marriage, the federal health care program, information-sharing, developing a budget, declaring war, and the role of the Supreme Court. With each of these issues, the focus will be the relationship between the national government and the states.Dr. Joe Farry will be presenting. He holds degrees from Loyola University, University of California Los Angeles and Fordham University. He is professor emeritus in the political science department at St John’s University and the College of St Benedict.The course will be held January 14-30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:15 to 5:15 p.m. It will be held at ATCC in the Office and Technology Building, Room 743.It is sponsored by ATCC and Knute Nelson.In order for the class to run, at least 30 people must be registered by January 2.The cost is $40 per person, and can be paid with a check or credit card.
