Alexandria's Jess Syvrud (1) was all smiles as she touched home plate and was congratulated by her teammates after she hit a three-run home run during the tournament opener last week. The Cardinals lost that game to Big Lake but bounced back to advance to Wednesday's games by beating Sauk Rapids-Rice on Monday afternoon.

"It was a well-layed game with good pitching and defense on both sides," said head coach Randy Albers.

Alexandria had a chance to get ahead early in the first inning with runners on second and third with nobody out as Sarah Bruzek and Dani Carlson led off the game with singles, but were stranded on the bases.

Alexandria took a 1-0 lead after five and a half innings, and Cardinal ace Taylor Ellingson held the Lumberjacks to just four hits through the early going, but rain put a damper on Alexandria's momentum.

A walk, three hits and a pair of errors later, Bemidji had a 3-1 lead and Alexandria's season was over.

The Cardinals got their only run of the game on a leadoff walk to Rachel Peterson in the fifth.

A single by Bruzek brought Peterson home, but the Cards were unable to add to that advantage and the season came to a halt.

Aleaxndria had a final chance to rally in the seventh, instead left a pair of runners stranded.

Alexandria finished its season with a 17-6 record.

Alexandria got on the board in the third as Dani Carlson singled and Taylor Ellingson doubled. Jess Syvrud hit a run-scoring sacrifice fly and Dani Strater smacked a two-out single to give the Cardinals a 2-0 lead.

They added a pair of runs in the fourth on a pair of errors by the Storm, then capped off their game with a run in the fifth as Rachel Peterson hit a two-out single to score Syvrud and a run in the sixth as Erin Ann Schueler pinch hit to open in the inning with a single.

Kaila Dewantz then scored on a sacrifice fly to left by Carlson.
