The Silverstreaks made sure of that by shooting a 329 on day two of the Section 6AA meet to secure their spot at state. They played in the Class A state tournament three times before this, finishing as high as second place.

The Silverstreaks shot a 350 on Monday and saved their best for Tuesday to finish with a 679. That helped them beat Staples-Motley by 12 strokes after the Cardinals had held a first-day lead of two shots. Rocori finished third at 708 and Becker shot 739 for fourth place.

“The girls knew they didn’t play their best golf on day one and were still very much in it,” head coach Steve Tax said. “The girls were very focused day two.  Everyone played excellent the second day. The key to the tournament was the score of 88 by Emily Backes on day one. The second day it was Ariel Chalmer’s 89 that was a key score that propelled us.”

Eighth grader Alayna Eldred was the catalyst both days, highlighting her tournament with a 76 on Tuesday. Annalise Savageau and Peyton Garcia shot 82s, while Chalmers rounded out the scoring with her 89. Backes and Katelyn Foster both shot 91 to round out the Osakis lineup.

Staples-Motley carded a team score of 348 on day one behind a 76 from senior Emily Israelson. Eldred shot an 81 in the opening round to lead Osakis. Garcia and Backes both shot 88s and Savageau had a 93 to round out the Osakis scoring.

Eldred finished third in the individual standings with her 157. Garcia was right behind her in fourth place with a 170.

“Our seniors really stepped up on day two,” Tax said. “Annalise Savageau and Peyton Garcia’s scores of 82 on day two were huge.  Katelyn Foster played very steady and Alayna Eldred solidified herself as one of the better players in the state by shooting a 76 on day two.”

The Silverstreaks will take on the best of the AA field on June 10-11 at the Ridges at Sand Creek Golf Course in Jordan.

“We will look to improve and we are looking to play our best golf of the year at this tournament,” Tax said. “We will have fun with it and enjoy this experience as a team and send out our four seniors on a high note.”
