Section 6AA baseball: Error sinks Minnewaska's chance at a section title
One hit and one error were all the Minnewaska Lakers allowed Sauk Centre in the Section 6AA baseball playoffs Thursday night, but it turned out to be one hit too many and the error ended the Lakers' season with a 1-0 loss.
Laker sophomore Riley Thompson had a no-hitter heading into the seventh inning of a scoreless game in the elimination bracket, but gave up a one-out double to Josh Buschette.
As the Mainstreeter junior stole third the ball got by the catcher, allowing Buschette to score and leaving Sauk Centre up by one.
Minnewaska had no answer in the bottom of the seventh as Pat Knoblach set the Lakers down in order, eliminating them from the tournament.
Minnewaska stranded four runners in the loss, including one on third in the fifth inning.
Thompson had to take the loss, giving up just that solo hit, striking out five and not allowing a walk. Knoblach took the win as he allowed five hits and a walk, striking out six.
The Lakers were led by Matt Paulson's two hits in the game. Austin Giese, Austin Ostrander and Luke Nielsen all had one hit.
