Section 5A boys' swimming and diving: Cards are first, send athletes to state
The Alexandria boys' swimming and diving team qualified several athletes to the State Class A meet Saturday at Bemidji, claiming the Section 5A team championship title as well.
Kris Aaseng and Max Jacobson finished first and second, respectively, in the 200 freestyle in order to advance, while Mark Kallevig qualified in the 200 IM with a third place finish and was third in the 100 butterfly. In the 50 freestyle and the 100 free, Eric Moe was third to earn a spot.
Aaseng was also first in the 500 free, while Aaron Pietrowski was third, and Zac Bartolomeo was third in the 100 backstroke. Elliot Jacobson took first in the 100 breaststroke.
The Cardinal 200 free relay team of Moe, Kyle Blank, Jacobson and Aaseng finished first to advance, while the 400 free relay team of Moe, Jake Strand, M. Jacobson and Aaseng finished third.
In Class A section competition, the top three finishers in each event, including diving, advance to the state meet.
