Section 5A, 6A wrestling: Osakis, Prairie Valley advance wrestlers to state
Osakis' Brendon Coyer, Trenton Coyer and Garret Scherr all earned individual titles at the Section 5A tournament in Long Prairie Saturday to advance to the upcoming State Class A championships.
Brendon Coyer earned a 6-2 decision over Josey Tensen of Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa at 106 pounds to advance.
Trenton Coyer finished second overall in the 113-pound class, also earning a state trip. He fell to Blane Tschida of Kimball in the championship match.
Garret Scherr finished second at 220 pounds, falling to Lucas Damm of Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 5-3 in the title match.
In Section 6A, West Central Area's Royal Crow was second at 145 pounds, falling to Josh Stuehrenberg of Breckenridge 10-3, to advance.
At 195 pounds, Hunter Fick of West Central Area was also second, falling to Tyler Patron of New York Mills 2-1 to earn his spot.
At 220 pounds, Tyler Schlosser of Prairie Valley (Parkers Prairie) was second to advance, falling to Kyle Johnson of Barnesville 5-2.
At 285 pounds, Prairie Valley's Logan Nibbe was second as well to move on, falling to Max Carlson of New York Mills in a 3-3 overtime contest decided by criteria.
