Seat belts prevent serious injuries

A two-vehicle accident Monday afternoon hurt four people but the injuries were only minor and authorities credited seat belts for saving the day.

The crash happened at the intersection of County Road 6 and Mums Road in Leaf Valley Township.

Shelby Swanson of Parkers Prairie was traveling west on Mums Road and Paul Amundson of Garfield was traveling south on County Road 6 when the collision occurred, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

Amundson's three children, ages 3, 6 and 7, were restrained in the back seat of his vehicle. They were taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Swanson was also transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

"Due to the use of seat belts in this accident, severe injuries were prevented," noted the news release from the sheriff's office.

Units responding to the scene included the sheriff's office, Leaf Valley First Responders, North Ambulance and Parkers Prairie Ambulance.
