Scrutinize all, not just restaurants
To the editor:
In response to the letter from David Boike on Veterans Day promotions: I would have to agree with you that the community probably doesn’t do enough to show appreciation for the veterans. But you singled out the restaurants for not doing anything, and they sell food to pay employees and make a living.
Did you find any gas stations giving out free gas? Did you find any banks giving out free money? Did you find any lawyers or doctors giving out free services? Were there any free newspapers for the vets?
Some banks, post offices and court houses were closed. Apparently they needed a day off more than the veterans. I feel if you are going to scrutinize locally-owned and run businesses, you need to do it to all of them.
Applebee’s is a franchise restaurant, so you should have compared them to Hardees, McDonalds, Burger King, Culvers, Arbys, Wendy’s, KFC, Subway, Pizza Hut and so on.
