The Scarves of Peace project, organized by Karen Lohn of Grand Marais, is in need of volunteers to participate in weaving scarves.

Lohn will be in Alexandria on Thursday, May 9 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Alexandria Technical and Community College's Foundation Hall. She is looking for volunteers who are interested in participating.

An artist and author of Peace Fibres: Stitching a Soulful World, Lohn first launched the Scarves of Peace project on September 21, 2012 to observe the International Day of Peace.

In an effort to grow the project, Lohn has traveled to communities around the country to train teams of braiders with the goal of braiding and distributing scarves across the globe. Teams of braiders join fibers from six continents into the Scarves of Peace.

Scarves from past projects were sent to world leaders. In March, a delegation from Minnesota delivered Scarves of Peace to women in Iraq who are confronting violence against women.

Those interested in volunteering should contact Sonja Kuhn at (763) 360-2556 or Sonja.m.kuhn
