Sartell downs Alexandria 5-0

With Sartell/Sauk Rapids heading into town on Friday, the Alexandria girls' hockey team knew it was going to have a tough game against a team undefeated in conference play.

The game was just that, as Sartell/Sauk Rapids scored four second period goals on their way to a 5-0 win over the Cardinals.

Alexandria was outshot 9-3 in the first period, but rebounded to get nine shots in the second and 13 in the third. But the Cardinals could not convert those scoring chances into goals as Sartell's Clare Minnerath stopped all 25 shots.

Head coach Blair Hovel said the team will need to work on scoring those tough goals to have a better outcome in games.

"We had some opportunities laying there and we didn't cash in on those, and that's something we're going to have to work on," he said. "Goals aren't going to come easy by us if we're not working hard."

The loss dropped the Cardinals to 2-2 in conference play this season and 5-4 overall.
