Sanguin to lead Evolutionary Christianity sessions at United Methodist Church
The Rev. Bruce Sanguin, author of Darwin, Divinity, and the Dance of the Cosmos, will lead a weekend of scripture exploration and cosmos understanding Friday through Sunday, November 8-10 at United Methodist Church in Alexandria.
On November 8 from 7 to 9 p.m., Sanguin will lead a discussion on “What is Evolutionary Christianity?” Sessions on Saturday, November 9 will be “The Genesis Creation Story” from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and “The Parable of the Prodigal Son” from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. There will be a $12 charge for each session or $30 for the weekend. Participants will be able to order a $10 box lunch on Saturday.
Sanguin will lead Sunday worship at 8 and 10:30 a.m. with an adult class at 9 a.m.
A native of Winnipeg, Manitoba and an ordained minister, Sanguin is currently serving Canadian Memorial Church in Vancouver, Canada.
He is one of the leaders in the worldwide movement to evolve and strengthen Christianity by bringing a mainstream understanding of the 13.7 billion-year history of the universe into the religious foundation of the faith.
“Today, there is nothing more critical than a compassionate response to the plight of our planet,” Sanguin said. “The church must be at the forefront of shifting human consciousness away from an ethic of domination for economic gain, and toward a spirituality of awe.”
