Rosie Olson, 76
Rosie Mary Olson, 76, died Monday, February 17, 2014, surrounded by her family at her home in Parkers Prairie.
A Celebration of Joy will be held Saturday, February 22 at 11 a.m. at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie with the Rev. Jonathan Sorum officiating. Burial will be at Parkers Prairie Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Aaron Meyer, Kevin Meyer, Wayne Perkins, Leann Becker, Lynae Trabant and Monica Hanson.
Visitation is Friday, February 21 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lind Family Funeral Home in Parkers Prairie and continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Rosie, daughter of John and Anna (Haase) Meyer of Henning, was born March 30, 1937. She was baptized, confirmed and married at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Henning. She attended District School #117 for eight years and then completed her high school education at Henning High School, after which she received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Bemidji State College.
She was united in marriage to Roy D. Olson of Parkers Prairie on March 30, 1958. They made their home on a farm near Almora. In 2001, they moved to Parkers Prairie. They were the parents of five children.
Rosie taught fourth grade at Parkers Prairie Elementary School for 22 years. She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and was an active member of the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church Association. She was also involved as a 4-H club leader. She enjoyed making quilts for the needy, crocheting, reading, and visits from her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Roy; five children, Dawn (Brian) Hanson of Newark, Delaware, Faith (James) DeViney of Eden, Utah, Carol (Richard) Lorenz of Billings, Montana, Glen (Dawn) Olson and Craig (Kristi) Olson, both of Parkers Prairie; 13 grandchildren; sisters, Lorene Rector of Austin and Irm (Charles) Perkins of Deer Creek; brothers, Alfred (Mary Jane) Meyer of Henning and Del (Jan) Meyer of New York Mills; sister-in-law, Beverly Olson of Parkers Prairie; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Her parents preceded her in death.
