Up on the rooftop: a theft

Police are investigating an alleged copper theft from the roof of Viking Plaza.

According to Alexandria Police Department (APD), approximately $1,200 worth of copper tubing was stolen from the heating and air conditioning unit for JoAnn’s, a store at the center of the mall.

Store employees reported that the store was unusually cool on February 3 and called a service company to check into it.

The service worker reported that the copper tubing had been removed from the unit.

It’s believed the theft happened sometime during the overnight of February 2-3.

Investigators are working with mall security to review security video.
