Rochel edges Noga for Ms. Basketball award
The Minnesota Ms. Basketball Award would have been icing on the cake after a standout senior season for Parkers Prairie guard Sari Noga.
Instead, the Associated Press and Gatorade player of the year will have to settle for what was likely a second-place vote for the award. Lakeville North's Cassie Rochel was named the state's Ms. Basketball this past weekend after averaging 16.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game for the Class AAAA champions.
The 6'4" post scored 13 points and grabbed 20 rebounds in the state championship game against White Bear Lake. Rochel is the state's all-time leader in blocks with 641.
Noga finished her senior season averaging 24.5 points, 12.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 4.2 steals per game. She scored 3,576 points during her career and grabbed a state record 1,738 rebounds.
Noga and Rochel will see a lot of each other over the next four years as both players will play in the Big Ten Conference starting next season. Noga has signed a letter of intent to play for the University of Minnesota, while Rochel is a University of Wisconsin signee.
