Robert Garretson, 68

Robert Max Garretson was born October 26, 1945 to Harold and Julia (Dunbar) Garretson in Streator, Illinois. He died November 27, 2013 at the St. Cloud VA Hospital.

Bob grew up in Streator. He graduated from high school in 1964 and enlisted in the Navy in 1965. In 1967, he reported to the USS Enterprise. One of Bobs proudest accomplishments was that he was on the USS Enterprise CVAN-65 on January 14 1969. He was honorably discharged in October 1969.

Bob then started working for North Central Airlines as an airplane cleaner. After 40 years for the airlines, Bob retired from Northwest Airlines as an aircraft maintenance instructor in February 2009.

Bob was involved with Boy Scouting from 1980 to the present as Scout Master, various district committee positions, Counsel Order of the Arrow advisor, and Wood Badge Course director. He was awarded the Silver Beaver and Founders Award for the Order of the Arrow.

He was a member of VFW Post 936, American Legion Post 87, VVA Post 235 and the DAV of Alexandria.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret "Meg" Matchinsky, Alexandria; son, Matt Garretson and Janine Trombly; sisters, Barbara and Walter Phillips, Beth and Kevin Wonders; brother, Bill and Debbie Garretson; nephews, Glen and Kim Phillips, Shawn and Jody Garretson; stepchildren, Robert Matchinsky, Debra Matchinsky, Janet Matchinsky, David and Cindi Matchinsky; grandchildren, Hunter, Emma and Megan.

A Funeral Mass will be held at The Church of St. Mary in Alexandria on Wednesday, December 11 at 1 p.m.

Visitation will be one hour prior to Mass at the church.

Interment is planned for June 9, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.

Memorials are requested to Boy Scouts or Veterans organizations.
