A ride to remember
Without saying a word, dozens of bicyclists took to the streets of Alexandria Wednesday to "pedal" an important message about bicycle safety.
The fourth annual Ride of Silence began at Big Ole Central Park and proceeded down Broadway, followed by a four-mile ride around town.
The purpose of the event, which takes place globally, is to honor those who were killed or injured while bicycling and to raise awareness to the fact that bikers have a legal right to share the road with motorists.
Locally, the ride is organized by Jake Capistrant and Brad and Sue Dumm. The Dumms lost their son, Dennis, in a bicycle crash in the Twin Cities in 2009.
