Glenwood's Sarah Roering birdied her first two holes with a couple long putts as the top seed in the Women's Division coasted into the quarterfinals on Wednesday afternoon.

The biggest upset of the day came when 13th-seeded Andrea Dwyer of Elk River knocked off fourth-seeded Alexis Guggisberg of Glenwood. Alexandria's Natalie Amundson also pulled of an upset as the 11 seed knocked off Brenna Lervick of Chanhassen in a 1-up match.

The Women's Division will get started at 12:54 off the first tee box today when Roering takes on Alexandria's Amanda Bigger and Dwyer battles two-time former champion Betsy Aldrich. Here's a full recap of how all the quarterfinal participants got here.

ROERING DEF.

NELSON, 8-6

It's going to take a strong performance by someone else in the field to beat Roering if she keeps playing like she did on Wednesday afternoon.

The former Minnewaska standout and current Colorado State golfer isn't going to beat herself. She made it look easy on her way to an 8-6 win over Alexandria's Andrea Nelson yesterday by being steady from start to finish. Roering sank two nice birdie putts on Nos. 1 and 2 to take a 2-up lead right out of the gate.

She never looked back from there as Roering went into the back 7-up after shooting an even-36 on the front. She got a par win on No. 3 before running off wins on four straight holes from Nos. 5 through 8. Roering gave one back on No. 10 but closed things out with a couple more par wins on the 11th and 12th holes.

BIGGER DEF.

LEIGEB, 2-UP

Bigger watched a 4-up lead disappear on the back only to retake the lead on 17 and hold on for the 2-up win over Allison Leigeb of Lexington, Kentucky.

The soon-to-be senior for the Alexandria Cardinals shot a 38 on the front and took a 4-up lead into the turn before Leigeb started to battle back. Both players birdied No. 12, but Liegeb's par wins on Nos. 15 and 16 evened the match up.

Bigger didn't panic. Instead, she responded with a birdie win on the par-3 17th that gave her a lead she wouldn't relinquish. She added to it on 18 with a par win that set up a match-up with Roering today.

DWYER DEF.

GUGGISBERG, 1-UP

Dwyer and Guggisberg battled back and forth all afternoon in this one before Dwyer prevailed with a 1-up win.

The biggest lead of the day came after 16 holes were compete when Dwyer got a par to move to 2-up. Guggisberg answered with a par win of her own on 17, but she couldn't get any closer than that as both players parred 18.

ALDRICH DEF.

CHESLEY, 5-3

Very seldom does Aldrich beat herself and she didn't on Wednesday as the St. Louis Park golfer had things going early in a 5-3 win over 20-year-old Mariah Chesley of Mankato.

Aldrich set the tone early with a birdie win on No. 1. That was the first of four birdies for her on the day. The other came on Nos. 9, 11 and 12 as the last of those put her at 4-up. She didn't need long to end things from there as Aldrich used a bogey win on No. 15 to secure the win.

JANU DEF. GOLDEN, 3-1

Second-seeded Brianna Janu of Glenwood rallied from a deficit on the back nine to secure a 3-1 win over Andover's Heidi Golden.

Golden trailed early after Janu got a birdie win on No. 1, but she bounced back from that and moved as much as 2-up after a bogey on 10 was good enough to take the hole.

Janu made her move from there. The former three-time all-state player from Minnewaska and current South Dakota State golfer used pars over the next two holes to even things before another par on 13 gave her the lead back.

Janu didn't let it go this time. She added to it with another par win at 15 before her par at 17 sealed the deal on her 3-1 win.

STROM DEF. THUL, 5-4

Elizabeth Strom shot 1-over on the front on her way to building a lead that she never came close to relinquishing against Alexandria Cardinals golfer Emily Thul on Wednesday afternoon.

Strom took the first three holes with two pars and a birdie on No. 3 that set the tone for the rest of the match. Thul got one back with a birdie of her own on No. 4, but Strom answered with a par win on five and seven as she took a 3-up lead into the back.

It didn't take long for her to build off of that. She got par wins on Nos. 11 and 12 to move to 5-up before both ladies parred their next two holes. That was good enough for Strom to secure her spot in the quarterfinals as she ended things after 14.

FALK DEF. JARRETT, 5-4

Samantha Falk makes it three Glenwood natives in the quarterfinals after her 5-4 win over Molly Jarrett of Coralville, Iowa.

Falk used the back nine to break open a close match through the front. She had three straight wins by bogey, par and birdie on holes 10, 11 and 12, which built her lead to 4-up. Falk ended it just two holes later as she carded another birdie on 14.

AMUNDSON DEF.

LERVICK, 1-UP

Amundson took her biggest lead of the day at 2-up after a par win on No. 13 and never gave that up in a 1-up win over Lervick, who took fifth individually at this year's Class AAA state tournament.

Amundson is only 16 but she has plenty of experience playing on the big state with two state tournaments under her belt, and it showed on Wednesday. She trailed early after a par win on five gave Lervick the 1-up advantage.

Amundson quickly turned that around with a bogey win on seven that evened the match. She then used a par win on nine to take the lead onto the back. Lervick earned a par win of her own on No. 10, but those two straight wins for Amundson on 12 and 13 proved to be the difference in a close match from start to finish.
