Resorters Golf Tournament: Women's Division, Thursday
Top seeded Sarah Roering continued to play like a favorite in the Women's Division Championship flight yesterday with a win over Alexandria native Amanda Bigger.
She will face Andria Dwyer today, who has played two tough matches to earn a spot in the semifinals. Both of Dwyer's victories this week were 18-hole contests.
Elizabeth Strom will face Samantha Falk in the other Women's Division matchup today.
The group will tee off at 12:48 p.m. off Hole No. 1.
Roering used a consistent performance in her match to outlast Bigger, 5-3.
Roering never trailed yesterday, and took her first lead with a par on No. 2. Roering led 3-up after nine holes thanks to a bogey on No. 4 and a birdie on No. 8.
She then added to her lead with a birdie on No. 12, and finished the match with a par on No. 15 to go 5-up.
ALDRICH, 1 up
Dwyer of Elk River won an 18-hole contest over Betsy Aldrich in the closest match in the Women's Division yesterday.
After taking a late lead, Dwyer was able to hang on for her second tough victory in the tournament.
Dwyer struck first in the match with a par on No. 2. But Aldrich responded with a bogey on No. 4 to erase the lead.
After Dwyer birdied No. 4 to regain the lead, Aldrich shot a par on No. 9 that tied the match heading into the back nine.
Dwyer built a 2-up lead thanks to a par on No. 13 and a birdie on No. 14. But Aldrich fought back with pars on Nos. 15 and 16 to tie the match with two to play.
That is when Dwyer made her move, shooting a par on No. 17 to take a 1-up lead. With Aldrich needing a win to force extra holes, both golfers bogeyed No. 18 to give Dwyer the victory.
Strom rolled to an easy 13-hole victory in her match against Brianna Janu of Glenwood.
Strom built an early lead in the match with a birdie on No. 1, but Janu tied it up with her only win of the day on No. 2.
Pars on Nos. 3, 4 and 7, along with a birdie on No. 8, gave Strom a 4-up lead after nine holes.
She then shot pars on Nos. 10 and 12 for a 6-up lead, and the match ended with both golfers tying No. 13.
Falk, a native of Glenwood, led the entire match for a 4-3 win over Alexandria native Natalie Amundson.
Falk took an early 4-up lead thanks to pars on Nos. 1 and 2, and bogeys on Nos. 3 and 4.
Amundson was able to cut her lead to 2-up thanks to pars on Nos. 6 and 7. Falk's lead would stay at 2-up through the front nine after she birdied No. 17, but lost the advantage with an Amundson bogey on the next hole.
Falk took a commanding 4-up lead after shooting pars on Nos. 11 and 12. The golfers split the rest of the holes until the match concluded on No. 15.
