Resorters Golf Tournament: Junior 10-12 Division, Wednesday

Here's an update of the Junior 10-12 Division Championship in the Resorters Golf Tournament being played at the Alexandria Golf Course after play concluded Wednesday.

The defending champion in the Resorters Junior 10-12 Division, Nathaniel Adams of Maple Grove, rolled to an easy win yesterday.

The golfer who shot the division's second best qualifying round, however, dropped out of contention. Elliot Amundson of Alexandria was eliminated by Gabe McKeown of Lenexa, Kansas.

The players who advanced to the final four will have a day off from the pressure today. Their next tee time is 9:36 a.m. on Friday from the 10th tee.

Here's a recap of yesterday's nine-hole matches:

The defending champ, who was also this year's medalist, wasted no time in his match against Davis Johnson of Chaska.

Starting from the back nine, Adams won No. 10 with par and followed it up with four straight wins, going bogey, par, par, bogey to close out the match, 5-4.

St. Cloud's Nate Martin broke out of the gate quickly, winning the first three holes with a par, bogey and double-bogey.

His opponent, Ben Jenson of Alexandria, stopped the attack with a nifty par on No. 13 to halve the hole and then closed to within two with a par win on No. 14.

Martin wasn't about to let this one slip away, however. He won No. 15 with a bogey, dropped the next two holes to Jenson's birdie and par, and matched Jenson's double-bogey on No. 18 to win it, 1-up.

After winning the first hole, No. 10, with par, Amundson ran into some trouble against McKeown. He triple-bogeyed the next two holes to lose the lead.

Amundson got back on track with a par win on No. 13 but McKeown regained the lead with a par on No. 15.

Pressure mounted on the next two holes when both golfers shot solid pars to force the match to No. 18. McKeown's bogey won the hole and gave him a 2-up, hard-fought victory.

O'HARA 2-1

A hot start helped Alexandria's Will Freeman topple Ryan O'Hara of Glenview, Illinois.

Freeman took the first three holes with two pars and a double-bogey. O'Hara slowed the attack with a par win on No. 13 but Freeman won No. 14 with par to go back to 3-up.

O'Hara tried to make a match of it by winning No. 15 with par but he could only match Freeman's double-bogey and bogey on the next two holes, giving the Alexandrian a 2-1 win.
