Resorters champions had to work hard for trophy
Down-to-the-wire matches added an extra level of excitement for the conclusion of the Resorters Golf Tournament at the Alexandria Golf Club.
Champions were determined in seven divisions of the match-play tournament today, Saturday, and four of the matches lasted 17 holes or longer.
For the first time in 12 years, the Men’s Championship came down to the 18th hole where Jacques Wilson, a 19-year-old from Victoria, edged last year’s runner-up, Nick Heinen, 18, of Edmond, Oklahoma, 1-up.
He sank a three-foot par putt under pressure to win his first Resorters’ title.
The Women’s Championship went 20 holes. Alayna Eldred of Osakis, a newcomer to the tournament at just 14-years-old, outlasted Jenna Janu of Glenwood by making par on the second extra hole.
Alexandria’s Dave Harris added a third Resorters’ trophy to his collection by defeating his old friend, George Cliff of Mankato, in the Masters’ Championship, 3-2. Harris is a two-time champ in the Senior Men’s Division.
In the Executive Men’s Division, Jeff Johnson of Chaska won his first title by nipping Dave Carothers, 2-1.
The Senior Men’s Division champion is Jeff Pederson of Haymarket, Virginia. He got by Jim Arnold of Plymouth, 2-1.
The Junior Division champion for the 13-to-15-year-olds is Ben Sigel of Deephaven. He coasted to a 5-4 victory over Reece Sanders, also of Deephaven.
The winner in the Junior Division for 10-to-12-year-olds is Gabe McKeown of Lenexa, Kansas. He downed Davis Johnson of Chaska, 4-3.
