Resorters baseball: Playoff seeds set as Carlos wins East title

The Carlos Cougars had to work for it this summer, but they captured their third straight Resorters East Division championship for the regular season after two more wins this past weekend gave them an 11-3 league record.

Alexandria was right behind them as the Black Sox finished 10-4 in the East and Long Prairie finished 9-5 to take third. The Cougars got a forfeit win against Swanville this past Saturday and then beat Sauk Centre 6-0 on Sunday to help put the finishing touches on a title.

The Cougars and the rest of the East field will now turn their attention to the divisional playoffs. All five teams are fighting for two spots in the Region 14C tournament.

Carlos will open the playoffs against the winner of Sauk Centre and Swanville on Saturday. Alexandria and Long Prairie will play in the other half of the semifinals this weekend with the first spot in the region tournament up for grabs at 3 p.m. on Sunday between the winners of Saturday’s games.

FINAL STANDINGS – 1. Carlos – 11-3; 2. Alexandria – 10-4; 3. Long Prairie – 9-5; 4. Sauk Centre – 4-10; 5. Swanville – 1-13
