The big arm of Miltona's Colin Erickson helped carry the Tigers to the Resorters East tournament championship Saturday night.

Erickson, a former Cardinal high school pitcher, threw seven shutout innings and allowed just three hits as he struck out 15 to pick up the 6-0 win over the Carlos Cougars.

Ryan Emter got the offense going for Miltona as he led off with a walk, with Tyler Erickson singling Emter into scoring position. A pair of walks later and Miltona grabbed a 1-0 lead.

"Over the next six innings, the Tiger offense would keep the bases occupied, but a combination of the lack of the big hit and some fine Cougar defense, most of which was provided by Carlos second baseman Aaron Noetzelman, Cougar starter Joe Snaza worked out of jam after jam to keep the game 1-0," said Paul Walsh, Miltona manager.

Finally, in the seventh inning, Miltona was able to come through with its second run of the game as Jake Leuschke led off with a double to the fence in left centerfield.

"Even then, it looked like Snaza might get out of it as he made a fine play to nab the runner at second on a comebacker to the mound," said Walsh.

"But with two out and Shawn Krueger on first, Ross Thompson continued his clutch hitting with a double to right."

A missed play in the outfield allowed Krueger to score from first for a 2-0 Tiger lead.

It was John Mohrer taking over the pitching duties in the eighth for Miltona, and Carlos took advantage of the change with a leadoff single to bring up the top of the order.

"The Tiger defense came up big as Noetzelman hit a shot headed for left field," Walsh said. "Tiger third baseman, Shawn Krueger, dove to his left and just got the tip of his glove on the ball, deflecting it to shortstop Tyler Erickson, who scooped up the baseball and fired to second to get a big out."

Mohror struck out the next batter, then cruised through the remainder of the ballgame to preserve the shutout.

Miltona added four runs in the top of the ninth to cap the win.

Erickson had three hits for the Tigers, with Thompson, Leuschke and Krueger adding two each. Emter, Ryan Silbernick and Trey Thompson had one hit apiece.

Miltona now enters Region 14C play as the top seed from the Resorters East. They will face the Bluffton Braves in the first round this Friday in Perham at 8 p.m.

Carlos advances as the No. 2 seed, and faces Bertha on Friday at 8 p.m.

Action will continue on Saturday and Sunday in New York Mills.
