Resorters baseball: Erickson fans 23 for Tiger win

Email

Colin Erickson was the story Friday night in Urbank as the league-leading Tigers defeated the second place Bombers 3-1.

The Tiger pitcher drew the start for Miltona and struck out 23 Bomber batters in the ball game.

Erickson was dominant, tossing eight shutout innings before a late Bomber rally in the ninth netted them one run as they loaded the bases with one out.

The Tiger hurler then struck out the last two batters to snatch the complete-game victory for Miltona.

Sam Steidl got the Tigers on the board in the fourth with a solo blast to right, giving Miltona a 1-0 lead.

Cody Curry was the other offensive spark plug as he rapped out four hits in the contest.

Alert base running by Curry and clutch hitting by Jake Leuschke led to the other two Tiger runs.

Tyler Walsh added a bunt single to aid the Tiger cause.

In a much different game, the Tigers experienced their first loss of the season in Clarissa Sunday.

The Father's Day game was an offensive one that saw the hometown Flyers outlast Miltona 11-9.

Mike Blom's three-run blast gave Clarissa an early 3-0 lead. The Tigers bounced right back with four in the second and a single run in the fourth to gain a 5-3 advantage.

Tiger starter John Mohror pitched well through five innings.

A couple Tiger miscues and some timely hitting by Clarissa broke the game open in the sixth as the Flyers scored six runs to go up 9-5.

Miltona kept coming back but it wasn't quite enough to regain the lead.

Jake Leuschke came on in relief of Mohror and pitched two and a third innings, giving up two runs while striking out three Clarissa batters.

Andrew McDaniel, Jake Leuschke and Tom Steidl led a productive Tiger offense with three hits apiece.

Colin Erickson and Tyler Walsh added two hits each, while Ryan Silbernick and Trey Thompson each added a safety.

The Tigers now have a season record of 8-1. Miltona is currently in first place in the Resorters' East division.

The Tigers will host Long Prairie at Bernie Steidl Field Sunday, June 26, at 2 p.m.
