Resorters baseball: Cougars one win away from East title game
The Carlos Cougars ran their winning streak to 14 games this season by winning the Resorters East playoff opener for them in a 14-4 game against Long Prairie last weekend.
The offense was firing on all cylinders behind a huge night from Jake Tharaldson. He had three hits, including a double and a triple, on his way to six RBIs and one run scored.
That was part of 16 hits for the Cougars. Nate Hoelscher had two and three RBIs. Jay Schueler went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs, while Gideon Burnham added three hits and three runs scored.
That gave Mark Hillesheim a lot of room to work with on the mound. He got the win after going the first six innings. Hillesheim allowed four earned runs on four hits and four walks. He struck out five before giving way to AJ Anderson out of the pen. Anderson went the final two innings, allowing three walks but striking out two.
Clarissa was supposed to play Clarissa this past Sunday, but that game was postponed to tonight, Friday, at 8 in Carlos. A win would advance the Cougars to the East title game, which will be played next weekend. The final elimination game to determine who comes through the losers' bracket will be played this Sunday.
