Resorters baseball: Carlos Cougars win two more
Alexandria Minnesota 225 7th Ave E
P.O. Box 549

The Carlos Cougars got two more gems on the mound and used two late runs on Saturday to sweep two more games over the weekend.

The Cougars scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to secure a 2-1 win over Long Prairie on Saturday. That came a day after rolling past Clarissa for an 11-1 win.

The Cougars' pitching staff has been dominant all summer and this weekend was no different. Ben Bruggeman took the ball against Long Prairie and cruised through eight innings. He struck out nine and allowed just one run on three hits and two walks.

Mark Hillesheim came on to work a perfect ninth to earn the save. He struck out two to preserve Carlos' 12th straight win of the season.

Bruggeman and Hillesheim also drove in the team's only runs on the day. Joe Snaza added three hits, including two doubles, and a run scored, while Aaron Noetzelman went 2-for-5.

Friday's win came a little easier as Neil Jenzen cruised through seven innings against Clarissa. He scattered six hits and a walk, while striking out five. His only blemish came in the fourth as Clarissa got to him for its lone run to tie the game at one apiece.

Things wouldn't stay that way for much longer. The Cougars blew the game open with four runs in the fifth and six more in the sixth.

Ryan Severson delivered three hits, including two doubles, on his way to a four-RBI night. Nolan Steidl went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Noetzelman went 2-for-3 with three runs scored from the leadoff spot.

The Cougars remained perfect at 12-0 after the weekend sweep. They will welcome in Miltona tonight, Friday, for an 8 p.m. first pitch. The Tigers are currently second in the East behind Carlos.

The Cougars will then travel to Urbank to take on the Bombers next Tuesday, July 3, for a 7 p.m. first pitch before wrapping up the regular season in Sauk Centre on July 8.
