The Brandon-Evansville Bluedogs split their two games this past weekend as they dropped an 11-5 game in Osakis after dismantling Ashby 16-1 on Saturday.

The Bluedogs jumped out to a 5-2 lead over the Hawks on Sunday but couldn't hold on in the late innings. Osakis scored nine runs through its final three at-bats, including a five-run seventh inning that opened the game up.

The Hawks pounded out 17 hits in the game. Ten of those hits came in the final two innings off reliever Mike Bruns. He took the loss after allowing seven runs. Matt Bruns got the start for Brandon-Evansville and went six innings, allowing four runs, three earned, on seven hits and four walks. He struck out four.

Lee Nelson and Mike Bruns each had two hits for the Bluedogs. Adam Johnson, Chris Shea, Nelson and Matt Kruize all added an RBI apiece.

Things went smoother all around for Brandon-Evansville the day before. The Bluedogs pounded out 13 hits and used six Ashby errors to break open the game early.

Brandon-Evansville led 14-0 after three innings. Matt Bruns connected for a three-run home run in a five-run third inning and Johnson added a two-run shot in the sixth to highlight the night for the Bluedogs.

Johnson also dominated on the mound to pick up the win. He went all seven innings, allowing just the one run on two hits and a walk. He struck out 12.

Johnson and Nelson led the offense with three hits apiece. Both added three runs and two RBIs to their lines, as well. Matt Bruns totaled four RBIs and two runs scored, while Billie Juul had a double, two runs scored and three RBIs.

The Bluedogs' record sat at 10-3 after the weekend split. They were leading the West Division with a 9-2 mark with forfeit wins over Alexandria factored in.

The Bluedogs will take on the Kensington Norsemen on the road this Saturday at 2 p.m. They will then welcome in Long Prairie next Tuesday, July 3, before Ashby comes to town on Wednesday. Both those games are scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.

Brandon-Evansville can lock up the West Division with a win in one of those three games.
