Resident volunteers recognized at Ecumen Bethany Community
Recently many of the resident volunteers at Bethel Manor and Winona Shores in Alexandria attended a luncheon thanking them for enhancing the quality of life for their neighbors.
As Housing and Urban Development (HUD) subsidized apartments, the expectation is that residents fundraise and work collectively, offering activities and life enhancement for fellow tenants.
Together, resident volunteers have formed committees for gardens, movies and social events. These volunteers team up to offer bingo, sing-a-longs, birthday parties, exercise classes, Bible studies and more.
“We are very lucky to have such a great group of residents who are willing to help and volunteer their time and creativity,” said Wendy Halbe, housing manager. “By helping others, they are helping themselves to lead a more independent and healthier lifestyle.”
As part of the Ecumen Bethany Community campus, Winona Shores and Bethel Manor offer 159 lakeside living apartments.
