Reception will celebrate land purchase at Runestone Park
First State Bank of Kensington and the Kensington Runestone Park Foundation will host a donor recognition reception on Sunday, September 20 at 2:30 p.m. at the Kensington Community Center.
The reception will celebrate the successful completion of the project to raise $40,000 to help Douglas County purchase 140 acres from David and Margaret Strand. The acquisition of this property enlarges Kensington Runestone Park to more than 300 acres.
The program will include donor recognition and unveiling of the commemorative plaques, followed by a presentation by Jack Salmela of Duluth, author of the book Vikings & Voyageurs.
A major part of his presentation is about the Vikings, particularly the Kensington Runestone and an inscribed stone found by the French explorer Pierre La Verendrye.
All interested persons are welcome to attend.
