Radiothon to end child abuse starts Thursday
KIKV-FM and Cool 94.3 will host the "Radiothon to End Child Abuse" on Thursday, December 3 beginning at 1 p.m. and continuing for 23 hours until noon on Friday, December 4.
This event is co-sponsored by Prevent Child Abuse Minnesota. Proceeds will also be shared by the Douglas County Prevention Council, Pope County Help Council, Stevens County Family Well Being Committee, Todd County PEACE Council and the Grant County Child and Youth Council.
During the 23 hours of broadcast, listeners will have an opportunity to phone in a pledge to help stop child abuse in Minnesota and in their local county.
Many human service professionals and community leaders will discuss child abuse prevention and what local resources are available to parents and children.
Listeners will hear what has been accomplished in the past to end child abuse and what can be done in the future to prevent it.
Throughout the radiothon, listeners will also have an opportunity to bid on many auction items, including gift certificates suitable for the holidays.
For more information on auction items, call KIKV-FM or Cool 94.3 at (320) 762-2154 or during the radiothon, call the special All-State Sprint line at 1-877-836-KIDZ (5439), where volunteers will be answering phones set up at Pete's County Market.
The 20th annual Radiothon to End Child Abuse will be held simultaneously in four locations: Bemidji (KB101-FM), KKZY-FM and KLZ-FM); Alexandria (KIKV-FM and KULO-FM); Brainerd (WJJY-FM, KUAL-FM, B93-FM and KLIZ-FM); and Wadena (KWAD-AM and KKWS-FM).
Last year, KIKV-FM and Cool 94.3 listeners raised almost $50,000 during the radiothon.
After expenses of less than 10 percent, all of the money raised will remain in Minnesota, split between Prevent Child Abuse Minnesota and the local agencies. Listeners can designate which county their money goes to.
