Purchase locally and license fees stay here
Editor’s note: This is part of a series of letters the Echo Press is publishing as part of national County Government Month.
To the editor:
The Douglas County License Bureau assists the residents of our community with their motor vehicle, driver, and DNR license needs. The license bureau in Douglas County sold almost 68,000 licenses in 2013.
Many of you are familiar with our office, but did you know when these transactions are completed at our office, the filing fee remains in Douglas County. If done by mail, the fee is still charged but is allocated to the state of Minnesota instead of remaining locally. So, please help support our local community by visiting our office to complete your licensing business.
Motor vehicle transactions include title transfers and renewals on new, used, and vehicles coming from another state. We also process farm vehicles, commercial trucks, mobile home transfers, and collector vehicles, just to name a few.
Various situations involving members of the military, veterans, disabilities, divorce and death can also be handled by our staff. Driver’s licenses and identification cards can be applied for and renewed at our location. Certain driver’s licenses and title transfers can be expedited, as well.
Transfers and licenses for boats, snowmobiles and ATVs are processed here. Fishing and hunting licenses are also available, including renewals on lifetime licenses.
We provide the many local car dealerships and their customers our services as well, including expedited and computerized vehicle registration (CVR).
The Douglas County License Bureau is located at 715 Elm Street, Suite 1065 (across from the Court House). Hours are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Our office is fully staffed now, with seven full-time employees. These employees have many years of customer service experience and quite a few have many years of licensing experience. Our dedicated, hard-working employees look forward to assisting you with license needs.
