Project Bookshelf brings gifts of books to children

For 22 years, the Alexandria Area Branch of American Association of University Women (AAUW) and District 206 Community Education have joined efforts to put books in the hands of young people through "Project Bookshelf."

Donations of new children's books are collected and redistributed through the local Jingle Bells program. Monetary donations are also welcome, and enable the group to purchase appropriate books in quantity at a discount.

Financial donations may be dropped off at the Community Education office, Woodland Elementary School, 1410 South McKay Avenue, or mailed to Community Education, P.O. Box 308, Alexandria, MN 56308 by December 9.

New books can be placed in special baskets at the Glenwood Public Library and at several locations in Alexandria, including Book World, Cherry Street Books, Douglas County Library, Alexandria Technical and Community College and the Community Education Office.

Books are needed by December 9 so that they can be sorted by reading level and given to Jingle Bells for distribution.
