Prestby qualifies for state spelling bee

Twenty-one spellers recently competed for five spots to advance to the Multi-Region State Spelling Bee and a chance to win a trip to the Scripps National Bee in Washington, D.C.

The qualifying event was held at Lakes Country Service Cooperative (LCSC) in Fergus Falls on Tuesday, February 19.

Jesemy Travers of Moorhead was champion. Jayme Aune, 7th grader from Parkers Prairie, was first runner up after spelling adagio and gourami. Allison Prestby, an Alexandria 7th grader, also qualified as a finalist and will compete in the state bee.

Others from this area who competed were Cassidy Smith, Alexandria, and Aubrey Koep, Osakis. All competitors received trophies as District Champion Spellers.
