Preparing for disaster
The elements were frighteningly realistic - a van "colliding" into a school bus, dazed students, "bloody" wounds, multiple victims, a sense of fear and panic. But it was all staged - and for a good reason. Members of the Lakes Area First Responders used the scenario to hone their skills in the event such a large-scale calamity actually happens. The drill was played out near the School District 206 bus garage last Thursday. First Responders from in and around the county and North Ambulance personnel treated the victims as if their injuries were real, securing some of them to backboards and loading them into an ambulance.
