Despite the recent dreary weather, the men of Douglas County were able to bring some joy and sunshine into the hearts of local residents on Tuesday, May 13.

Equipped with the finest heels they could fit into, men marched down the streets of Alexandria in the city’s second Walk a Mile In Her Shoes: The International Men’s March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault and Gender Violence.

Fifty men showed up Tuesday evening, excited to get into heels and walk for a cause. A total of 62 people registered for the walk, and more than $4,000 was raised to help women in the community. Kristy Brackett, an advocate at Someplace Safe, confirmed that this was $1,000 more than what they raised at the first walk in 2013.

“The people that came were super excited,” Brackett said. “It was super awesome!”
