Police issue warning over telephone scams
The Alexandria Police Department is warning residents about a scam that is targeting residents in this area.
It starts with a telephone call where residents are asked to wire money to a specific location. The scammer will pretend to be a relative, stating that he/she is in trouble and needs help.
Another scam involves a caller saying that he/she is with law enforcement and a relative is in jail and needs money in order to be released.
Authorities advise people to not conduct financial transactions with unverified sources or give out financial information to suspicious callers.
If you encounter any type of this activity, contact the Alexandria Police Department at (320) 763-6631.
