Police issue alert over residential burglaries
The Alexandria Police Department is warning residents to take precautions against a rash of burglaries that have been reported in the city.
On Thursday, police officers responded to four separate burglary reports with extensive criminal damage to property in the neighborhood of Darling Drive Northwest.
After further investigation, it was determined that in each break-in the damage consisted of furniture being ripped and cut up, picture frames damaged and thrown off the walls, and various beverages opened and spilled throughout the houses as well as sheetrock kicked in.
It appears that the target is seasonal homes or unoccupied homes, according to police.
In each case, driveways were not cleared of snow.
There was also a previous report of a residential burglary on the north end of the Scenic Heights neighborhood in an unoccupied house that was currently under construction.
The police department believes there may be a connection between the five reported residential burglaries.
Police recommend residents to stay vigilant by looking out for their neighbors, keeping their doors and windows locked and removing snow from driveways and sidewalks.
If you have any information regarding these burglaries, contact the Alexandria Police Department at (320) 763-6631.
