Plow truck scam leads to burglaries
Alexandria Minnesota 225 7th Ave E

Don't get plowed by a burglar. Douglas and other counties in close proximity have experienced daytime burglaries in recent weeks.

Incidents involving a charcoal grey, extended-cab four-door pick-up truck have been reported around Meeker County. A caucasian male estimated to be in his 30s pulls up and asks in a southern accent if a resident needs their driveway plowed. The kicker is, he doesn't have a plow on his truck. He has been seen wearing a baseball cap and a brown jacket.

"Our office is participating in a multi-county task force investigating residential burglaries," said Douglas County Sheriff Troy Wolbersen. "Those investigations are all active and ongoing."

Three burglaries were experienced in the Garfield area just before Christmas. Wolbersen said a suspect has been identified and is in custody on other charges. Property has been recovered and laboratory results from the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are forthcoming. Once the investigation is complete, the case will be turned over to the Douglas County Attorney's Office, Wolbersen said.

Seven burglaries occurred in Douglas County on October 23, 2012. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office believes these burglaries could be linked to other incidents in west central Minnesota counties.

A report from the KMRS/KKOK website stated that more than 30 reports of daytime burglaries have occurred in Grant, Stevens, Pope, Douglas and Kandiyohi counties over the past few weeks.
