Plans under way to begin big band at Alex Senior Center
The Senior Community Center in Alexandria plans to put together a new big band, playing music of the 1930s through the ’60s, starting with an organizational meeting on Monday, June 30 at 1 p.m. The goal is to have a downbeat around 1:30 p.m.
Paul Engebretson, known for his jazz group Doc’s All Stars., has volunteered to help with this endeavor.
Non-members of the center are welcome to participate, especially those older than 50. High school musicians are also invited to join. Those who attend must bring their own music stand.
Although Engebretson said that initial rehearsals are likely to be a “little ragged,” people are welcome to stop by to listen.
To participate, those who can play an instrument and read music can call Engebretson at (320) 846-0911 or show up at the senior center on June 30.
