Pee Wees earn state consolation title

The Alexandria Area Hockey Association Pee Wee A team clinched a consolation championship with a 2-1 victory in double-overtime against Edina at the state tournament last weekend in Crookston.

Ben Doherty scored the game winning goal for Alexandria in the game’s second overtime period on a penalty shot. Alexandria outshot Edina 47-24 in the game.

Alexandria started out the tournament with a 2-1 loss to Armstrong Cooper, sending it to the consolation bracket. A 6-3 victory over Farmington then put Alexandria in the consolation title game against Edina.

Alexandria finished the season with a record of 41-9-1, which included tournament victories in Burnsville, Alexandria and Warroad.
