Pederson seeks Alexandria mayoral spot
Mark R. Pederson has formally announced his candidacy for mayor of Alexandria.
He is running against Sara Carlson, Ward 2 council member and the only other mayoral candidate to file for the November 6 election. Mayor Dan Ness, who has held the position since 2001, is not seeking another term.
Pederson grew up on the west side of Alexandria, graduated from Jefferson High School and has been married to Jan (Raap) for 33 years. They have three grown children and three grandchildren.
Pederson has been in the construction business for more than 30 years as a carpenter, contractor and developer. He's a member of St. Mary's Parish and also belongs to the Knights of Columbus, Eagles and Elks Lodge.
Pederson said he loves the outdoors and is a life member of the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association and the National Rifle Association.
He was a member of the Alexandria Economic Development Board from its inception until 2006.
"My pride in this community and the businesses here runs deep," Pederson said. "I look to present positive leadership and promote this city to its fullest extent, both statewide and beyond."
Pederson added that he will strive for a "budget conscious approach" to city fiscal matters and an "atmosphere of cooperation" on the council and with county government.
