Paulzine, Hanson-Simmons impress at SO golf meet
Jacob Paulzine and Justin Hanson-Simmons each brought back some hardware after competing in the Special Olympics National Golf Invitational from October 17-20.
The two golfers competed at the Seaview Golf Club and Resort in Galloway, New Jersey with the competition covering three days of nine-hole rounds. Divisions were decided after the first two rounds of qualifying scores.
Paulzine competed in the traditional nine-hole event and took second in the Silver Division. Hanson-Simmons teamed up with Ryan Spencer in the unified nine-hole competition as the duo took first in the Gold Division.
The team was coached by Karyn Sportel of the Alexandria Area Special Olympics program. Home courses for the golfers include Nordic Trails and the Lake Miltona Golf Club.
The Alexandria Area is also wrapping up the bowling season at Garden Center Lanes and anticipating the state meet in November. Swimming will begin in December and gymnastics will start in January. Anyone interested in donating or volunteering for the local Special Olympics teams can contact Sportel at (320) 491-8759.
