Pastor writes and publishes Bible-based devotional book
William Loge of Vining, retired pastor, recently authored and published his first book, 31 Sizzling Scripture Passages from the Heart of God: Bible Devotional for Busy Families.
The book has a basic Bible message and an extra feature for both adults and children who wish to go deeper.
Each of the 31 devotionals includes an original illustrative sketch, to which artist Steve Henning of Evansville and Krista Fearing of Osakis contributed their skills.
“While sketches and pictures can be helpful for adults, helping children visualize Bible metaphors and characters is the primary reason for those visuals,” Loge wrote. “We want those simple images to help the young capture the message of the Bible and to see the characters as real people with needs, hopes, sorrows and joys.”
The book website, FamilyBibleExperience.wordpress.com, was designed by Stephanie Tvrdik of Alexandria’s Versatile Designs.
Loge also enlisted the help of his wife, Jean, who worked on the book’s editing and administrative issues; his sister, Becky Tighe of Battle Lake, who has a professional book design background; and Joy Minion of Fergus Falls, who is an editor and typesetter.
In a book review, Denise Rieke, retired teacher and practicing private tutor in Minneapolis, said, “I loved being able to read and use these devotionals for myself. These are great Bible passages for all ages that also reach the heart of a young person, treating them and their minds with respect.”
Some of the devotions in the book include He Never Prophesies Any Good Thing about Me, Sometimes Children Know Best, God’s Word: Stored in the Temple or Stored in the Heart, and Lord, I Feel Kind of Small at the Moment.
Though Loge has been in ministry 46 years, it never occurred to him to be an author until after his retirement. He strongly felt God urging him to write a scripture-based devotional that parents and other adults could share with children.
Loge began to write in the winter of 2012. He commented, “Over the course of my life and my ministry years, certain passages have nearly jumped off the pages of Scripture with riveting and often delightful responses to my heart and mind.”
Ordained in 1974, Loge served North American Baptist churches, ministered with Child Evangelism Fellowship and at Providence College and Seminary in Manitoba.
In 1991, he ministered with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, serving there 14 years and with Serving In Mission until 2011.
Loge and his wife have been married 47 years and have three sons, three daughters-in-law and nine grandchildren.
In Alexandria, 31 Sizzling Scripture Passages from God’s Heart is available at The Mustard Seed at 607 Broadway.
