Outdoor opportunities for youth in August
The Douglas County Pheasants Forever and Viking Sportsmen are hosting two events in July and August in an attempt to get more kids involved in the shooting sports.
The first event will take place on July 22 at 6 p.m. at the Alexandria Shooting Park with the second annual parent/daughter shoot. Both parents and daughters will be able to shoot clay pigeons under the supervision of certified firearm safety instructors.
The event is free with dinner provided. Shooters can bring their own gun or use one of the club member’s. Ammunition will be provided. Many of the conservation clubs in the area are also coming together to put on a youth outdoor activity day on August 24 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Alexandria Shooting Park.
This is also a free event for kids 16 years of age and younger that is designed to introduce kids into the outdoors. Activities include: an exhibition shooter, trap shooting, BB gun shooting, archery, a mock blood trail, a shoot/don’t shoot course, campfire building, shelter building, orienteering, geocaching, ATV safety, trapping instruction, fur identification, muzzle loading and shotgun shooting and outdoor cooking.
Call Dean Krebs with any questions about either of these events at (320) 763-4122.
