The Osakis wrestling team wrapped up a busy week by finally being able to host a home invite this past Friday.

The Silverstreaks were on the road for the first month of the season but got to perform in front of their home fans at the Osakis Invitational. The Silverstreaks hosted five other teams on Friday as they fell in matches to Class A’s 10th-ranked KMS (44-20) to start the day and Kimball to end it in a 42-33 match. Osakis also beat Albany in its second match of the invite and ran into a good Pierz team last Thursday and fell to the Pioneers by a 54-19 score.

The Silverstreaks grabbed an early lead against Kimball after forfeit wins from Devyn Johnson and Trenton Coyer and a pin in just 13 seconds from Brendon Coyer. Brendon moved up a weight class against KMS and won 2-0 at 126, while collecting two pins in a combined 27 seconds in his other two matches at 120.

“We knew that KMS is one of the top teams in the state and we did win quite a few matches,” head coach Joey Andreasen said. “Brendon had a real nice match and Tyler Spanswick was back from his football injury, and he had a great match.”

Spanswick was in his first competition back after suffering a broken leg in football. He got a pin in 3:53 at 195 pounds against KMS and in just 28 seconds against Kimball. It was a welcome addition to the lineup, especially after Adam Kleinfehn was lost for the season recently after tearing ligaments in his elbow during a practice.

“Having Tyler back at least kind of neutralizes that loss,” Andreasen said. “Adam puts a lot of time in, came and seemed to be getting better and better every week, so he could have really helped us here down the stretch. We did have Austin Sunder who got himself down to 170 so we have someone to replace him in the lineup.”
