Osakis wins State Class A baseball opener
The Osakis Silverstreaks are making the most of their debut State Class A baseball appearance, cruising past Blackduck 10-0 in five innings in the opening round at the Mini Met in Jordan Thursday afternoon.
The Silverstreaks took advantage of 10 walks by the Drake pitchers in the game, and added six hits as well as taking advantage of two Blackduck errors.
Jordan Frederick got the win as he scattered just three hits, striking out five and walking in his four innings on the mound. Kilar Zimmel pitched the fifth, walking one and striking out one.
Osakis scored in the first three innings of the game, bringing home one in the first as Jordan Frederick scored on a play in which Doug Zimmel hit into a double play with no outs, allowing the Osakis pitcher to score.
The Silverstreaks added five runs in the second and four more in the third, more than enough to secure the win.
Hunter Scherr drove in a pair of runs in the game to lead the Silverstreaks, who will now face New York Mills at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow, Friday.
