The Osakis girls’ basketball team knew it would have to earn a win at Browerville against a talented Tigers team on Saturday afternoon.

That’s exactly what they did in a back-and-forth game that Osakis eventually put away in two overtimes 76-66. It came a day after the Silverstreaks ran past Upsala 62-27 on their way to moving to 9-1 overall and to 6-0 in the Prairie Conference. They are the only unbeaten team in league play as Browerville fell to 8-2 overall and 4-1 in Prairie play.

“This was a hard fought basketball game by both basketball teams,” Osakis head coach Pat Kalpin said of the Browerville game. “As a coach, it was fun to be part of such an intense game. It was one of those games where every possession was big whether it was on the offensive end or defensive end. It seemed that when one team would do something well the other would counter that.”

Osakis got a couple clutch baskets by two of their seniors down the stretch to send the game to overtime. The Silverstreaks were trailing by four late before Annalise Savageau and Madi Forsell hit back-to-back threes. Osakis led by three with less than a minute to play, but Browerville countered with a clutch three of its own to tie it with 16 seconds left.

That forced the first overtime, where the Tigers built an early four-point lead before Osakis tied it and Browerville missed a shot at the buzzer. This time it was the Silverstreaks who grabbed a quick four-point lead in the second overtime. Osakis didn’t give it away as some key defensive stops and an 11-for-12 clip from the free-throw line put the game away.

Savageau and Forsell both had 21 points to overcome a game-high 33 points for Browerville’s Crystal Pearson. Forsell also had seven assists, six rebounds and three steals. Boogaard added 13 points and Staloch finished with nine points to go along with her 11 rebounds.
